DEETER HASTENTEUFEL - CANADA

During my short residency in Eilat, Israel from March,27th. to April,14th. 2013. I started a series of "Frottages"  (graphite rubbings), on paper. The Frottages begin with the most unique manholes in the streets of Eilat! Traveling to Germany I continued this work in Krefeld, and I have completed the series in Stuttgart. The triangularity of the locations used, "connect" in my mind, not only three places with very different climate, landscape, and traditional background, but share through circumstances a burdened yet in many ways cultural history, of which "Art" is only one example....
